Initial Reaction

When it first arrived, the packaging was nice and tight and clean. The leave in conditioner was wrapped with a plastic around the nozzle that I had to use scissors to cut off, so I do appreciate that. At the very least, they made sure there were no product leakage.

Now, because I was a SheScentIt fan LONG before she re-made her products and pretty much commercialized everything, I actually prefer her former packaging. Her packaging used to come in packaging similar to Qhemet Biologics with the amber-colored plastic bottles and jars and cute logos. So, I have to admit, I'm not too crazy about her new style of packaging but, you know, different strokes for different folks. It doesn't prevent me from trying her products altogether lol!

As I believe I mentioned before, I haven't tried her line since she re-formulated everything, so I'm as good as a newbie in this review.

Upon opening up the Cranberry Cream Hair Cocktail, the leave in was very liquidy more so than creamy. Rubbing it between my fingers, I judged that it would have a lot a slip and it seemed to soak into my skin very easily, though it does feel lightweight going on. The smell of it is like a floral? Scent? I'm not very crazy about floral scents, but I guess it could grow on me. It wasn't exactly overpowering, so it wasn't a complete dealbreaker.

As far as the MuruMuru & Avocado Ultra Nourishing Hair Butter, it has the same floral fragrance of the leave in. It's like........... how can I describe it? Like, if someone on the planet actually created a chewing gum that was gardenia-flavored, it would smell like this product! lol It's like a very floral scent with an underlying sweet tone. It's a nice scent, but it's not something I'm partial too (and I take scents very seriously lol). And for both of them to smell this way and not be in the same "line" or a specific "collection", I wonder if this is how her general scents smell across the board. And if so, that kind of leads me to not repurchase already.

And the consistency of the hair butter doesn't change my mind either. When you first open the product, it looks like a hair dream or something! Like tons of mini marshmallows that were melted and whipped into a fluffy hair butter! But..... when I went to rub it in... I'm not sure if what I got was just a faulty batch, but it does NOT rub in smoothly. Have you ever tried to melt stale coconut oil in your hands? Well if you have, you'll understand those grainy bits that just NEVER seem to melt down.

And that's the problem with the hair butter. When I went to melt it in my hands, there was a thin film of little grainy bits on my hand that just wasn't pleasant for me and I didn't like this product right off the bat. But, a product review IS a product review. :)

Normal Routine

So this one was no different than any other hair styling session. My hair, though had been deep conditioned for like a day and a half. I just didn't have the energy to do my whole wash day within the same day, so the deep conditioning process got stretched a little bit lol.

But I went section by section using the product. I first used the Cranberry Hair Cocktail and then after that sealed in the product with the Murumuru Hair Butter. The cranberry hair cocktail does soak in really nicely! It does provide a lot of slip and made the little finger detangling I had to do so much easier. Now I love it for that!

One thing I'll note is that the nozzle on the hair cocktail leave in conditioner wasn't working. I was twisting the nozzle for DAYS waiting for it to pop up and it never did. So eventually, I got impatient and just used it without the nozzle and poured bit by bit into my hand.

I hated using that hair butter because of that grainy after-feel. But luckily, it didn't leave any type of residue in my hair after everything had been applied. I proceeded to put my hair back into fairly chunky twists (like 4 big twists in each section) since it was late. I didn't opt for the smallish medium twists this time. After that, I then oiled and massaged my scalp with my spearmint oil mix just to finish everything off.

Finishing Up

So far, compared to the SheScentIt products I used to use back in the day.... I am not impressed. And honestly, kind of disappointed.

Her products don't seem to pack the same amount of moisture to my hair that they used to. Her scents leave a lot to be desired, in my own personal opinion. She's charging higher for them. And, in my own pettiness, her packaging isn't even that alluring anymore.

Her whole entire line has changed, and just from these two products, I don't think I'll be repurchasing. I can NAME some products my hair used to DIE FOR back in the day.

Her Marshmallow Herbal Cream (which I believe she still sells but has probably reformulated) used to be the ISH back then. It smelled like authentic black cherry soda! It softened and defined my hair so much.... actually...

I don't even have to LIE about it. I posted my reviews from her on this very blog.

And I believe in these posts as well, she had already started changing her products, but not as much as she's changed them today. And so far, I don't like any of it. And for me, scent matters a lot, but these products don't even feel moisturizing thus far. I feel like these products are going to be kind of products you have to use daily, and I mean HAVE to like "you dare not skip a day of moisturizing!" when using these products.

I would go back to the products I used to use but she's discontinued most of them. The one I would be hanging on to try is the Marshmallow Herbal Hair Cream, but honestly, after trying these two products... I'm no longer that anxious to try.

I'm so disappointed! BUT. In her defense, I've never tried these products before, so I can't just assume her whole line is crap (to me) just because of these two. One day (DOWN the line) I will make a purchase of the herbal hair cream and possibly the avocado conditioner since those are the only two products left that I used to use a lot in the past and make a true testament. I don't want to just diss her because her products brought my hair through some tough times! But even if the marshmallow herbal cream and avocado conditioner still do my hair justice... I don't think it'd be enough to keep me repurchasing. If I only like two products out of a line of 20... I don't usually return. I don't know why but I just don't.

Again, this is just my review and my personal opinions and thoughts. I'll be giving my final updates and thoughts later on.

But until next time,

♥ Keep calm 'n coily ♥
