If you hadn't seen that video I posted previously, here it is again...
And this is how mine turned out:
I did mine slightly different then the video. This is what I used in my mixture since I wanted a mixture that I could kinda grip lol. So this is what I used for mine:
- 1/2 cup of flaxseeds
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tsps aloe vera juice
- 1 tsp castor oil
Now I will note that you MUST watch this gel as it cooks. Yes I did do it in 2 minute intervals like she did in the video but now I realize that when you are about 4-5 minutes in cooking your flaxseeds, you may have to start watching your microwave about every 30 seconds to one minute. I made the mistake of going to my bathroom (to get the castor oil) which only tooke like 15 or 20 seconds and I soon returned to an overflowing mess of sticky gel in my microwave.
15 SECONDS MAN!!!!!
So yes, I do advise you do NOT walk away from your microwave while it's heating up, it WILL boil over like a pot of grits. I don't think I could even make it to 7 minutes, I had to take it out around 6 minutes.
After that, I strained my flaxseeds through a knee high stocking and my tongs. The process for that was a bit messy too but I solved that by just placing the dish I was straining with onto a paper plate onto a dish towel. Easy cleanup!
And walah! That was it. All that was left was to wash the bowl I heated it up in and empty my knee high and bam. Nothing like breaking out pots and pans and waiting for the water to boil and just....ugh. Something about knowing I can throw something in the microwave and heat it up makes life seem like a vacation lol.
So, I used this last night while moisturizing my hair. This is how I'm going to be moisturizing my hair, at least for the month, on a daily basis... I think. I'll be keeping a record of what I'm doing with my hair, but this is what I plan on doing and using...
Products of choice include
- Cold Aloe Vera Juice in spray bottle
- Shea Moisture's Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Cream
- Flaxseed Gel
- Castor Oil
In that order I moisturized my hair and braided it into 6 chunky braids again to maintain the cuteness of my braidout. And this morning, it turned out really nice. Until humidity hit it that is. But this is what I was working with PRE-poof... This is as good as my pictures can get right now with my phone's camera...
Not bad and the definition was DEFINITELY crazy sick. I think my hair is very much dry...it doesn't get as defined as it used to when I first went natural... or maybe it's just me. I don't know but for some reason, even after "moisturizing" it, it still sounds very noisy. You know how when you touch your hair, well I can hear it make 'sounds' like crunchy, straw 'sounds' though it still feels 'soft'... I don't know, I could just be paranoid since I want my hair to be really healthy like...right now. But I know it will take patience and time to get there. Patience and time I must constantly and consistently be willing to invest.
That's the only way to get and maintain healthy beautiful hair...no matter the curl type or texture ;)
So until next time,
♥ Keep it calm 'n coily ♥
